If you’re having trouble with a level you can use your coins on three short, timed power-ups. However, the virtual cash leads to my biggest sticking point. They’re a good test of your skill, and you’ll likely earn at least a couple of keys and some coins for your trouble. Challenge zones are a series of levels that start easy and slowly grow in difficulty. If you do get flummoxed, you can head to the challenge zone for the area you’re currently in. Place the pugilistic new bonk choy behind a wall-nut and it can take down almost any zombie - until a torch-wielding undead explorer comes along and burns both in a blink. These additions gently evolve the game, forcing players to tinker with their strategies as they work out how best to deal with new threats. Kill a green zombie and it will drop food you can use to supercharge your plants in fun ways - like creating a barrage of peas that can take out a whole row of undead - potentially providing just enough of an edge to get out of an unexpected tight spot. And in the Wild West you’ll be provided dirt-filled mine carts on rails that can be moved up and down to more effectively position the plants they bear.Īnother important addition is plant food.
